Empower in Burundi , 2014 by Pastor Frank Michael Tweheyo

From 25th to 28th March 2014, I was in Burundi to follow-up Empower activities there. I had brief meeting with His Grace the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Burundi, The Most Rev. Bernard Ntahotur, and his wife. As Archbishop Bernard is also the bishop of Matana Diocese, he is a great stake holder in as far as Empower in Burundi is concerned.

After that I met with Rev. Canon Seth Ndayirukiye, the new provincial secretary for the Anglican Province of Burundi.  Canon Seth has been the Diocesan Secretary of the Anglican Diocese of Matana, which is the pilot diocese for Empower in Burundi. He had also been in charge of Empower activities in the diocese. We evaluated Empower activities with a way forward for Matana and made a projection for Empower to move to the province.

We will begin by introducing Empower to the dioceses of Bujumbura, Muyinga, Buye and Rumonge. We are expecting Dr. Carrie Miles to usher in this move with an Executive Overview of Empower to all Bishops of the province in early 2015.

I also had meetings with Pastor J. M. Nibizi, our Burundi coordinator and his wife. He has three running groups who do New Man New Woman teachings. With him we reviewed Empower activities outside the Anglican church. We scheduled programs that David and Sarah Nutter will be able to run them in July.

To God be the glory and God bless Empower.
